CHAPTER 34

Pepper and Emil were already heading to the back of Layla’s house to block the back door, as Mo and Koi sat in the rental car and watched Gabby leave the driveway.

Gabby studied the parked car sitting across the street from her client’s house, but Mo turned her face away and she didn’t recognize Koi, so she drove on.

Mo hit the steering wheel. “Bitch! I knew it.”

“What is it, Moses?” Koi asked sweetly.

Mo jumped out of the car. “Listen, stay out of my business. Get into the driver seat and keep the car running. If that lady comes back, or the police or anybody come up to the car asking questions, floor it.”

Koi looked at Mo like a confused child on the first day of pre-K. “Floor it? Like get down on the floor?” She smirked.

Mo shook her head. “Like drive the fuck off and don’t say shit to nobody!” She answered, already thinking that Koi’s dumb ass was going to be a problem. She walked quickly to Layla’s door, looking around to make sure no one was out that could identify her.

She hesitated for a second before pressing end on her vibrating cell phone, for the hundredth time in the last week. Jovan had not let up yet. She’d told him that she was confused and stressed out, that she just needed a break.

Layla, still wearing a face bandage, moved suitcases and boxes with her feet as she opened the door. She didn’t bother to look out the window or peephole. She just assumed it was the blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman again. “What the fuck—”

Mo pushed her inside the house by her sore, freshly-operated-on face.

Layla tripped over a box and hit her forehead on the corner of the sharp-edged coffee table. “Ahhh shit!” she screamed out.

Mo straddled Layla, as Pepper and Emil entered the front door, and squeezed firmly around her neck. “What was that white woman doing here?”

Layla spat in Mo’s face.

Mo drew back and swung a closed fist into the bandaged side of her face, splitting some of the stitches. “What was that woman ... doing here?” she asked as she struggled with Layla.

“That was my aunt—I can’t breathe!” Layla tried to free herself from Mo’s hold around her neck. If only she could get to the knife on the end of the coffee table, she would end all of the problems.

Pepper and Emil decided to be nosy and search the house, to see why Layla had all the suitcases and moving boxes.

Mo knew she had a fight on her hands, but she was prepared for a battle to the death, if it meant finding out information about getting her and Emil’s daughters back. “Layla, this is my last time—”

Layla jerked, almost getting away from Mo.

But Mo grabbed her tighter, choking her until spit began to seep out the sides of her trembling jaws. “Tell me who that woman was ... before I kill yo’ ass!”

Layla stared into Mo’s eyes and knew that she was serious about killing her.
